Bentley is a British company who are famed for making luxury cars and SUVs. Bentley was founded in London in 1919 and quickly became a leader in the market. Walter Owen Bentley, after whom the company is named, used to sell French cars before the first world war but had a dream to design his own vehicles which he pursued with his brother one the war was finished. Bentley had a mission which the company still uses to this day which is ‘to build a good car, a fast car, the best in its class’. The business was known for being incredibly underfunded until the arrival of the heavyweight boxer Barnato who loved the cars and decided to heavily invest in the business. His initial donation of £100,000 was enough to save the business from going under, he would go onto invest much more in the future as the business grew.
The cars became famous for a group called the Bentley Boys. A collection of high profile men who all drove the cars, the group included, among others, George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, automotive journalist S.C.H. Sammy Davis and Tim Birkin. They were known for keeping the Bentley brand alive at the time when it was not doing so well in the commercial market. Between 193
1 and 1970, Bentley was owned by the British company Rolls Royce. Up until the point, Bentley has failed to register the trademark of the brand, something which the Rolls Royse organization did right away.
