One of the most influential car manufacturers in the world, even today, is Toyota. This Japanese institution was founded in 1937 and has gone on to be one of the top manufacturers. Since the mid-2000s, Toyota has held the record for the worlds most prolific manufacturer, overtaking General Motors and Ford.
Around 32% of Toyota’s output and product is sold to the North American market with the domestic market (Japan) being the next biggest source of demand (25% ). The rest of Asia is the next biggest market at 11% followed by Europe which by 14% of Toyotas global output.
Despite being an incredibly successful company, Toyota has not existed without its problems. In 2009, 2012 and 2014 many thousands of models had to be recalled in fact, the 2009 recall encompassed more than 9 million trucks and cars across the world and even altered production and sales of Toyota models.
Originally the name was not supposed to be Toyota. The family name from which the company derives is actually Toyoda, but it was changed to Toyota to reach a wider market. The company has a surprisingly relaxed approach to marketing and has no special branding which has led to inconsistencies in its campaigns across the globe.
